Online Doctoral Programs at George Fox University
George Fox University (GFU) is a Christian university of liberal arts and sciences and professional studies located in Newberg, Oregon, United States. Founded as a school for Quakers in 1885, the private school has divided between its main campus in Newberg and its centers in Portland, Salem and Redmond. The 108-acre (0.44 km2) main campus is located near downtown Newberg, near the junction of Oregon Route 99W and Oregon Route 219. George Fox is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The school consistently earns third-party recognition from publications such as Forbes and U.S. News & World Report, which annually rank it among the nation’s top Christian colleges.
Graduate studies include psychology, social work, business, education, counseling, physical therapy and seminary. At George Fox students will «Be Known» whether they meet regularly in classrooms or enroll in programs that include the convenience of online classes. While most of their classes are conducted in a traditional classroom setting in Oregon, several of the programs use a hybrid format that combines face-to-face instruction with online learning. Students engage one another collaboratively. They meet together in real-time online sessions once a week and complete the rest of the coursework as their schedules allow.
Several of education doctoral programs include an online component that allows adults to earn their degree while still working full time. School of Education programs include a Doctor of Education (EdD). Doctor of Education program includes online instruction. The university’s School of Business offers full- and part-time a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree. Doctor of Business Administration program, a three-year, 56-credit-hour degree, includes both online courses, conducted solely over the Internet, and hybrid classes that combine online and classroom instruction. Students come to campus in Portland, Oregon, for two on-site sessions per year.
In addition, George Fox Evangelical Seminary confers a Doctor of Ministry program in three tracks: Leadership and Spiritual Formation, Semiotics and Future Studies, and Leadership and Global Perspectives. Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Spiritual Formation – a cohort-based program that employs an online component while also incorporating four retreats that meet for 10 days in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Doctor of Ministry in Semiotics and Future Studies – a cohort-based program led by Dr. Leonard Sweet that includes online interactivity with professors and cohort members and three retreats in Portland, Oregon, Timberline Lodge (Oregon) and Orcas Island, Washington. Doctor of Ministry in Leadership and Global Perspectives – a cohort-based program led by Dr. Jason Clark that includes online interaction and face-to-face learning experiences in Europe, Asia and Africa.
